The Prompt

UX Writing Challenge: Day 3
Scenario: The user entered the wrong email address to sign in to their account.

Challenge: Tell the user to enter the right email.

40 characters max

Ideation Process

Let’s call today’s user Emily.

Emily is a user of an app called ‘The App’ (how original!). When signing up, she used an email, a password, and authenticated her email because she got sent a special link. It was quite a process.

But Emily was trying to sign in today, and she happened to use the wrong email.

This could be due to a number of reasons, such as

  1. Emily has several email addresses.

She signed up for The App with emilytheappuser@gmail.com

But her email addresses are many. In addition to the Gmail, she’s got Outlook, ProtonMail, and YahooMail. Oh, I forgot. She’s got an AOL as well. That’s a lot of email addresses. It’s possible she entered the wrong one by mistake.

2. Emily’s made a typographical error.

Instead of emilytheappuser@gmail.com

But she may have entered emilytheappuser@gail.com

It isn’t the exact email she used to sign up for The App. So it wouldn’t work.

As a UX Writer, how can I help Emily?

There has to be a prompt to tell her to Enter exact email used to sign up

If she used the wrong email, she’d think about that. If she made a typo, she would be more careful.

There also has to be a button asking Forgot?

This would help her reset her account if she enters multiple emails and gets confused. We wouldn’t want to frustrate her login experience.

Goal

To guide Emily towards using the right email address for signing in to The App.

Result

Tadaa!

Instruction — Enter exact email used to sign up.
Button — Forgot?

Thanks for reading! See you tomorrow for Day 4, and don’t forget to comment!
