The Prompt

UX Writing Challenge: Day 6

Scenario: It’s Monday. A user has just gotten into their car to drive to work. They plug their phone into the car and start driving.

Challenge: How would you let the user know there’s a fire happening in a nearby town that is causing road closures? The effect on their commute is unknown, but there is a definite danger if the fire gets closer. How do you communicate this to them? When? Write it.
Headline: 30 characters max

Body: 45 characters max

Ideation Process

Today’s user is an accountant named James, an accountant who works in the heart of the city. Unfortunately, there is a fire in a nearby town, and it’s causing road closures.

Now, it isn’t known for sure whether James’ commute would be affected. But there is a possibility that it can. There is also a possibility that James may be in danger, especially if the fire gets too close.

In order to communicate this to James, it would be important to catch his attention with a strong, concise message warning him about the fire.

James would also need to check for an optimised route (away from the fire and the road closures) to ensure his safety, and also his punctuality at work (if possible).

It’s Monday, and although the fire is out of his control, it would be helpful to start the work for the week on time.

Goals

  • To help James avoid the fire.
  • To help James find the best route for getting to work.

Result

Headline: Fire Alert!
Body: Roads closed due to fire. See optimised route.

Thanks for reading! See you tomorrow for Day 7, and don’t forget to comment!
